The updates to Regulatory Guide 234 _Advertising financial products and services (including credit)_( [RG 234](https://www.asic.gov.au/regulatory-resources/find-a-document/regulatory-guides/rg-234-advertising-financial-products-and-services-including-credit/ "RG 234 Advertising financial products and services (including credit): Good practice guidance")) simplify and explain ASIC’s regulatory approach to advertising financial products and services. As part of this work ASIC has: - added new guidance reflecting enforcement and regulatory action, relevant to advertising conduct, since RG234 was published in 2012 - consolidated guidance from Regulatory Guide 53 _The use of past performance in promotional material_ ( [RG 53](https://www.asic.gov.au/regulatory-resources/find-a-document/regulatory-guides/rg-53-the-use-of-past-performance-in-promotional-material-withdrawn/ "RG 53 The use of past performance in promotional material")) so that all advertising guidance is in one place - simplified and streamlined existing content. As a result, RG 53 has now been withdrawn. These updates follow consultation with stakeholders from 27 November 2025 through to 22 January 2026, with stakeholders broadly supportive of the proposed updates.
