The error which led to an overcharging for cash withdrawals occured almost three years ago, between June 2023 and February 2024, and has been blamed on a third-party ATM provider, according to a report in the Irish Independent. A [Revolut](https://www.finextra.com/company-news/3939/revolut) spokesperson said: “This ATM access fee was applied solely by the ATM provider, was not at the instruction of Revolut, and was not passed on to Revolut." “There is no relationship between Revolut and the third-party ATM provider. Nevertheless, Revolut is stepping in to refund affected users in the best interest of its customers, while the technical issue which initially caused the error has been resolved.” In total, 112,00 Irish customers were affected by the error. However, the refunds are believed to be modest with the median payment arond €3.95. Despite the overcharging error, Revolut has enjoyed a fruitful year in Ireland. It has added 100,000 customers in the country so far this year, up to 3.4 million. This comes after a 10% increase in customers in 2025. In addition, Revolut's Irish customers have shown an increased interest in investing. The challenger bank's latest figures show that it has almosty 350,000 montly active investing clients in Ireland, a 22% increase on the previous year. **Want to hear more about financial crime prevention?
